World Peace or “World Peace”?

I thought the Nobel Peace Price that we hear about every year, was about, well you know, world peace. Forgive me for wondering, what exactly have these folks achieved for world peace, to get an award for "peace". Apparently, the Norwegian committee has broadened its interpretation of peacemaking and disarmament efforts outlined by Swedish industrialist Alfred Nobel in creating the prize with his 1895 will. The prize now often also recognises human rights, democracy, elimination of poverty, sharing resources and the environment. Well wasn't that nice of them, if it all becomes a bit too hard, they'll just move the goalposts around a bit.
Former US Vice President Al Gore and the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize Friday for their efforts to build up and disseminate knowledge about man-made climate change and to lay the foundations for fighting it. "His strong commitment, reflected in political activity, lectures, films and books, has strengthened the struggle against climate change," the citation said. "He is probably the single individual who has done most to create greater worldwide panic understanding of the measures that need to be adopted."

It said that Gore "has for a long time been one of the world's leading environmentalist alarmists politicians" and cited his awareness at an early stage "of the climatic challenges the world is facing. The committee cited the IPCC for its two decades of chopped trees scientific reports that have "created an ever-broader informed consensus about the connection between human activities and global warming. Thousands of scientists and officials from over one hundred countries have collaborated to achieve greater certainty as to the scale of the warming." LiveNews. I added the struck-through text.
I can't think of anything that Al Gore has done for world peace, but I suppose the UN may have done something (I'll be kind and not differentiate between the IPCC and the UN) for world peace. I believe they've finally agreed to disagree that genocide is happening in Darfur, phew, so Darfuris can finally stop whingeing about all their problems, they're just not being killed or dying in large enough numbers to matter. I hear some White farmers in Zimbabwe are now being persecuted for trying to provide food for their starving nation, until they figure out a way to change their skin color and weasel global warming into their plight, they'll just have to keep taking the crap dished out to them. Buddhists being repressed in Burma, well the UN held a very important meeting over their plight you know, well yes it didn't achieve peace and democracy in Burma, but hello, they held a meeting!!!

Just recently, a group of people actually fought for and largely brought human rights, democracy, elimination of poverty to a part of the world gripped by a bunch of ruthless bastards, you'd have to forgive them for thinking that perhaps they'd be better candidates for a peace prize, after all they shed their blood and gave their lives for it. You see, climate change makes you all warm and fuzzy, but if you can't actually live, then it's kinda hard to enjoy the benefits of global cooling as opposed to the terror and pestilence that is global warming. I'm talking about the United States Armed Forces and that recent event is Anbar province, in my eyes, they are more deserving because they actually delivered peace to a bit of the world.

I suppose in defense of the IPCC and $25000-a-table Al-Gore, the US Armed Forces may have actually delivered a bit of peace and all that, but they probably have not produced reports for the last 20 years [*tut-tut*] leading to worldwide hysteria or demonstrated an awareness and commitment to the effects of noxious gases produced by the UN on world climate [*big tut-tut*]. So forgive me if I don't congratulate Al and the IPCC.
